one of the labels, that extensively influenced me, turned 20. Warp Records, founded in 1989 by Steve Beckett & Rob Mitchell in Sheffield, is one of the biggest, finest and trendsetting indie labels ever since.

With LFO they had their first chart entries in the early nineties;  with Nightmares on Wax´ “Smokers Delight” in 1995, one of the first ultimate achievements in downbeat; besides the influental greatness of artists like Aphex Twin, Autechre or Squarepusher, they released music of Luke Vilbert, Two Lone Swordsman, Prefuse 73, Plaid and loads of others…
lately they´ve been breaking down the hiphop frontiers (besides prefuse and anti pop consortium) with Flying Lotus.

20 years of extraordinary and complex music is worthy to release a best of album: the warp guys are releasing Warp20 on the 25th of Sept: 10 best of tracks selected by the warp originators and 10 online chosen tracks by the warp community. sounds lovely! i´ll grab something to eat and listen to LFO by LFO, Hard Normal Daddy and some richard d. james muzik!

“…dedicated to underground dance music..a party that harks back to the halcyon days of clubs like The Loft and The Paradise Garage whilst at the same time adapting it for a Viennese crowd and always looking into the future..”

In Wien als Musikliebhaber / Nerd wegzugehn zählt zu den schwierigeren Dingen. Gute HipHop Clubs sind seit jeher eine Rarität, dasselbe kann man auch (wenn auch nicht so extrem) von der Dance Abteilung behaupten. Die kommerzigen Geschichten laufen nun mal besser und musikbegeisterte Menschen wie z.B. The Loud Minority, die avantgardeschwangeren HipHop Genuss mittlerweile öfters als einmal im Monat in unsere Ohren blasen oder Simon Lebon & Rainer Klang, die vermeintliche Nischenbookings im Sass betrieben bzw noch betreiben, gibt´s nun mal nicht wie Sand am Meer.

Wer in der ersten Hälfte der Nuller-Jahre House auflegte, durfte öfters mal einsame Stunden erleben. Den meisten Tanzflächen konnte es eben nicht minimal genug sein.  Damit ist es seit einiger Zeit vorbei, die unterschiedlichen Spielarten von Deepness, Dreck und Edgyness drängen sich wieder auf .  Mittlerweile kann man wieder mit einer Klangpalette auf der Höhe der Zeit spielen, die jener sehr ähnlich ist, als Moodymann und Theo Parrish Mitte der Neunziger Ihre Farben bezogen: kantig, jazzig, discoid.

Wenn man so will - Bildungsauftrag und Party are very mutual things, und genau dieses Bewusstsein versucht die Praterei nach Wien zu bringen und die Clublandschaft so zu berreichern, dass sie auch qualitativ mit Städten wie London, Amsterdam, Hamburg oder Zürich mithalten kann.
Eine Reminiszenz an legendäre Clubs der New Yorker Undergroundszene der 70er und 80er Jahre wie The Loft und The Paradise Garage und auch eine Hommage an ein längst verschollenens Club-Urgestein, nämlich die Meierei. Ähnlich Eklektisches was den Sound, als auch das Publikum betrifft, hat es in Wien (fast) nie wieder gegeben.

Zur Premiere geladen: Losoul, DJ und Produzent aus Frankfurt, der zwischen Techno- und House-Gerüsten die Deepness von Funk und Soul zerpflückt, Soulphiction aka Jackmate, Playhouse-Kumpel von Losoul und selbst Labelchef von Philpot, die Hosts willFling (pssst!), felix „BNCKD“ leiter (supercity, HUNDRED20) und Rainer Klang (Lost in Music).
Und … ja und? Dicke Überraschung! Die Pratersauna hostet einen „secret floor“, auf dem Cansei de Ser Sexy (CSS) mit einem DJ-Set brasilianisches Trendbewusstsein in fetzige Dance-Action transformieren werden.
Das Artwork stammt übrigens von Barkintheyard, einem Grafiker & Streetart Duo aus London.

Located in the same croatian area like the Garden Festival which takes place every July in Petrcane, the Disco 3k Festival is the second festival dedicated to underground dance music, but more focussed on disco, re-edit culture and dirty underground house music!
6 hours by car from vienna, this is definitely worth to ship your asses down there! petrcane is a beautiful old village, the seaside just around the corner, the line up splendiferous!!
